Castang Wine Shippers and merchants is an Independent Family business established in 1979. Currently we operate throughout the South West England, and with distribution throughout the UK, together with key accounts in other areas of the country. During the past 32 years, we have steadily increased our portfolio of wines and agencies by expanding our activities firstly throughout Europe and more recently in the New World wineries. Our range now exceeds 450 wines. The business has a wide variety of skills and experience, which allows us to offer a comprehensive service together with advice to our clients.

The main activity of the company is the importation and supply of wines to private and corporate clients, wine merchants, hotels, restaurants, wine bars and Universities. We also supply mail order wine to private wine connoisseurs either for personal consumption or for gifting.

logo Since 1979 we have specialised in the supply of wines purchased direct from growers and estates as well as the more traditional method of purchasing through negociants. Growers have been visited around the world directly at the vineyards to assess the quality of wines and to check methods of vinification. Our regular contacts and long term relationships with the wine makers helps to ensure high quality and thus avoiding badly made and dishonest wines. We should be pleased to help our clients with their plans to visit any of our suppliers. I feel that our list represents not only genuine value for money but also provides a selection of new, interesting, and unusual wines.

Over the years we have placed much emphasis on the selection of top quality country and house wines; and so with many good wine makers around the world combined with modern vinification techniques, it never ceases to amaze us how many anonymous, acidic and overpriced poor quality wines are still passed off as House wines. Caveat Emptor - BUYERS BEWARE!!!

CORNWALL’S NEWEST WINERY

Madeleine – This is the lightest wine in our range. This is made from a single varietal and is a very elegant, crisp and immensely quaffable wine. It has a moderate alcohol level of 11.5%. The aromas are very delicate; floral – white flowers, elderflower – also reminiscent of gooseberry like fruit, and even hints of passion fruit. Some people comment that it is Sauvignon Blanc like (a Loire Valley example rather than the overt New Zealand types). On the palate it is light, really clean and refreshing with a nice soft finish. Very drinkable. Not robust enough for strong foods – creamy dishes will overpower it, but for light seafood, salads etc it is perfect. Great aperitif too!

 Trevannion:  This is a blend of Siegerrebe, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.  Siegerrebe gives the powerful muscat like aromas; so the floral/rosewater/tangerine like notes. The Pinot Blanc provides structure and acidity, the Pinot Gris adds texture fruit weight, citrusy flavours and complexity.  So to taste this wine is very aromatic, and has more richness on the palate than the Madeleine.  It is 12.5% alcohol which gives it more presence. There is more texture, with that slight grip on the finish which gives it impressive length. Good with light Asian dishes (nothing too hot as beer is better) or a whole host of fish, also light chicken etc. knightor cornish wine
